In the last years, Arkema has carried out a variety of R&D programs to develop new technologies for thermoplastic composites, leading to the market introduction of its Elium® resins in 2013.
Arkema succeeded in creating a resin, which is basically a combination of two resin types. It’s combining the advantages of epoxy resins and thermoplastic resins together. That means not only reaching the high properties of an epoxy resin but also using the opportunity of thermoplastic resin, like thermoforming, recycling and good impact capabilities. As proven by the commercial introduction the liquid Elium® resins is aiming amongst other things to produce thermoplastic composite parts by the use of the well-known light RTM or Fast RTM processes.
